Decision tree

  1. 1. Do several people, systems, or automated events need the number?Yes: Evaluate the official Business Platform. No: The WhatsApp Business app may still be sufficient.
  2. 2. Do you need an agent interface as well as API access?Yes: Compare managed platforms and their API coverage. No: Direct Cloud API or a thin BSP may fit.
  3. 3. Can the team verify ownership, consent, cost, and export?Yes: Run an end-to-end pilot. No: Resolve those controls before launch.

Common mix-up

Pasting +91 98765 43210 into the Phone Number ID field fails, because the field expects the 15 to 16 digit ID that Meta assigns to that number. Copy it from API Setup after selecting your own number rather than the Meta-provided test number.

Questions customers ask

Is the WABA ID the same as the Phone Number ID?

No. The WABA is the account and one account can hold several numbers; each number has its own Phone Number ID.

Are these IDs secret?

They are identifiers rather than credentials, but should not be published. The access token is the secret.

Quick Answer

Your WABA ID is in Business settings > Accounts > WhatsApp accounts in your Meta business portfolio. Your Phone Number ID is in the Meta developer app dashboard under WhatsApp > API Setup (and in WhatsApp Manager under the number's details). Your Business ID is under Business settings > Business info. The Phone Number ID is a long number that is not your phone number.

Last checked October 2026. Meta renames menus and changes review rules often, so treat the steps as the path, and confirm the exact wording on screen against Meta's documentation.

The Three IDs and What Each One Is

WABA IDYour WhatsApp Business Account15 to 16 digitsBusiness settings > Accounts > WhatsApp accounts; also in WhatsApp Manager
Phone Number IDOne registered number inside the WABA15 to 16 digits (not the phone number)developers.facebook.com app > WhatsApp > API Setup, or WhatsApp Manager > Phone numbers

Step by Step

Find the Business ID

  1. Open business.facebook.com/settings and select the right business portfolio.
  2. Go to Business info. The ID is shown near the top.

Find the WABA ID

  1. In Business settings, open Accounts > WhatsApp accounts.
  2. Click your account. The WhatsApp Business Account ID is displayed in the details panel.

Find the Phone Number ID

  1. Open your app at developers.facebook.com/apps.
  2. Go to WhatsApp > API Setup. Under the "From" number selector you will see the Phone Number ID and the WhatsApp Business Account ID together.
  3. If you do not use your own app (for example, you connected through a platform), open WhatsApp Manager > Phone numbers and check the number's details.

The Mistakes That Waste an Afternoon

  • Pasting the phone number instead of the Phone Number ID. The ID is the long numeric ID, not the digits customers dial.
  • Pasting the Business ID into the WABA field. They look similar. If the API says the object does not exist, check you did not swap them.
  • Reading the ID from the wrong portfolio. If you manage several, switch to the one that owns the number.
  • Using the test number's ID. The API Setup page shows a Meta-provided test number first. Select your own number before copying.
  • No access. If the WhatsApp accounts list is empty, you may not be an admin or the account lives in a different portfolio.

Verify the Pair Works

A quick check, if you have a valid token, is a read request for the number's details using the Phone Number ID. If it returns the display phone number and quality rating, the ID and token are matched. If it returns an error, see the error code guide and the token guide.

What If Meta Does Not Give Me the IDs?

When you connect through Embedded Signup, Meta normally passes the WABA ID and Phone Number ID back automatically. If the popup closes early, a blocker interferes, or the number is not fully registered, they can come back empty. Tenreply detects this and lets you type the missing values in manually. See Embedded Signup not working for the causes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the WABA ID the same as the Phone Number ID?

No. The WABA is the account; the Phone Number ID is one number inside it. One WABA can hold several numbers.

Where is the Phone Number ID if I have no developer app?

Check WhatsApp Manager under Phone numbers. Platforms that connect through Embedded Signup store the IDs for you.

Can the IDs change?

No, they are stable for the life of the account or number. If you register a different number, it gets its own Phone Number ID.

Are the IDs secret?

They are identifiers, not credentials, but do not publish them. The access token is the secret.

Stop Copy-Pasting IDs

With Embedded Signup, Tenreply receives the IDs from Meta directly. You only type them in if Meta cannot return them.
